Event sponsored by Humanities Montana
Reception by Montana Wilderness Association Members, 5:30-6:30

What happens when the rivaling perspectives of John Muir and Gifford Pinchot meet? The new idea that some landscapes, national parks and land, should be collectively, permanently owned by the government -- and thus, "in commons" by the American people was in question in the late 1800s. Although many people today think of public lands as an American birthright, their very existence was then in doubt, and dependent on a merger of the talents of these two men.
