Bloomsday Description:
Cassiopeia Books is honored and delighted and excited to be hosting the 5th Annual Bloomsday in Great Falls! Bloomsday has been one of the most anticipated annual events at the bookshop - and for good reason: we will be joining countries all over the world to celebrate the author James Joyce and his masterwork Ulysses. The extraordinary modernist novel, all 783 pages, takes place on June 16, 1904, and it takes the reader through the streets of Dublin along with our hero, Leopold Bloom. In celebration of this novel, communities have been hosting public readings from the book every June 16, and Great Falls is no different.
We will have an august cast of some very stellar readers (including Marc Beaudin, Brienne Menut, Shaun Gant, Geoff Badenoch, Katie Kane, & Thad Suits) giving voice to the Cyclops episode - a section full of hilarious Irish phrases and ale soaked passages and uproarious wordplay and despicable nationalistic propaganda and a dog that once ate a good part of the breeches off a constabulary man in Santry.
With such fantastic readers, it is soooo much fun to just listen to Joyce's prose and it simply does not matter one tiny bit whether you have read Ulysses or not. You may be inspired to read it afterwards, or you may never read a page of the once-banned novel. Either way, come and enjoy the literary revelry and the Irish humor as well as the homemade treats and the sudsy brews and join in one of the finest literary holidays in the world.
And it's Father's Day, so bring yer pa!
